Upon arrival in Lhasa, our Tibet group tour guides will meet you at the airport or train station and transfer you to your hotel. Your first day is designed for gentle acclimatization to the high altitude plateau. Today’s Tibet group tour is centered on Lhasa’s spiritual heritage. Start at Drepung Monastery, once the world’s largest monastic university—its white-walled terraces cascade down a hill, crowned by panoramic valley views. Begin your day with a visit to the majestic Potala Palace, former winter residence of the Dalai Lama. Cross several high-altitude passes including Gyatso La (5,240 m) and Gawu La (5,198 m). Drive toward Darchen, the starting point of the “Mount Kailash Kora”, crossing the Mayum La Pass (5,211 m)—enjoy sweeping vistas of Gongzhutso Lake and Mount Naimonanyi. Upon arrival, take in your first full view of Mount Kailash. Rest well for the thrilling Kailash tour ahead.

- Distance: approx. 20 km
- Altitude: 5,080 meters / 16,666 feet
- Embark on your Kailash tour pilgrimage early from Darchen. Begin with a gentle ascent (or optional eco-bus ride), past the ceremonial Tarboch Flagpole and into the valley. Trek through beautiful Lha Chu Valley until reaching Dirapuk Monastery, nestled beneath Kailash’s north face—an ideal place to spend your first night on the kora.
- Dirapuk Monastery: This monastery offers spectacular close-up views of Mount Kailash.
- Overnight at the guesthouse of the Dirapuk Monastery, resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude.
- Distance: approx. 22 km
- Altitude: 5,630 meters / 18,471 feet (Dolma La Pass), 4,835 meters / 15,860 feet (Zuthulpuk)
- Today’s the toughest yet most rewarding stretch: ascend to Dolma La Pass (5,630 m), then descend past the sacred Gauri Kund Lake to Zuthulpuk Monastery, built around the Milarepa cave.
- Zuthulpuk Monastery: Arrive at Zuthulpuk Monastery in the late afternoon. This monastery is built around a sacred cave associated with Milarepa, one of Tibet’s most famous yogis and poets.
- Overnight at the monastery’s guesthouse.
- Distance: approx. 12 km
- Altitude: 4,670 meters / 15,321 feet (Darchen)
- Complete the last part of your Kailash kora, then drive to Lake Manasarovar, revered as one of Tibet’s most sacred lakes. Relax by the shore, with optional hot-spring bathing (at your own cost). Celebrate crossing the finish line of this transformative journey.

After morning time by the lake, return west to Saga, traversing shifting landscapes from high plains to broad valleys. Reflect on your Tibet group tour of Kailash pilgrimage.
Overnight in Saga
Depart the high altitudes and enter the lush Gyirong Valley, described by explorer Howard‑Bury as “the most beautiful valley in the world.” Passing Sherpa villages, dense forests, and crisp mountain streams near the Sino‑Nepal border, before overnighting in Gyirong Town.
Note: In rainy seasons of July-August, Gyirong might be closed and we’ll then get to Zhangmu valley, with similar scenery of lush forest in the area.
Overnight at Gyirong border
Enjoy a restful morning in Gyirong / Zhangmu, then journey back to the high plateau at Tingri, with sweeping Himalayan views en route, one last Himalayan spectacle: Cho Oyu and Everest pierce the horizon as you cross the 5,200m Lalung La Pass.
Tip: If your next destination is Kathmandu, morning departures from Gyirong / Zhangmu are available.
Overnight in Tingri
After breakfast, drive through Shigatse and visit the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhunpo Monastery, home to the world’s largest bronze Maitreya Buddha. Continue along the Yarlung Tsangpo River valley, returning to Lhasa. Enjoy leisure walk at the Barkhor Street again.
